The couch from Jeremy Allen White’s steamy underwear ad that spawned memes, comments on the Golden Globes red carpet and a slew of online attention is available free for anyone to pick up in New York.
“Guess what? I’ve got the hottest seat in town — the legendary red corduroy couch that a famous celebrity chef (in not-so-many clothes) sat on in the commercial everyone’s talking about,” the lister wrote in the original post, possibly referring to White’s Golden Globe-winning portrayal of chef Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto in “The Bear.”
The account that listed the couch offered little detail about where the furniture came from, why it’s being given away or whether it was actually used as the actor’s personal underwear throne. The account has four reviews, ranging from two stars (“got defensive when I questioned how to get the drawer open”) to five (“Notable: Punctuality · Communication”).
The account-holder did not immediately respond to The Washington Post’s request for comment Friday morning.
Representatives for Calvin Klein did not immediately respond to questions about the couch or whether the listing may be legitimate.
The Marketplace post, in which the account holder mentions that her husband got the couch because he works for an unidentified “agency,” said interested parties must be willing to pick it up in New York. A Friday afternoon update on the Facebook page says the item is still open to interested takers, a development that raises the question: Why would a piece of this much-discussed photo shoot still be available a whole day later?
White says he doesn’t want it. He also doesn’t think the couch should be up for sale.
“I think zero [dollars] sounds correct to me,” he told TMZ on Friday.
White, 32, whose role as Berzatto already raised viewers’ blood pressure, whipped up a social media frenzy as a scantily clad rooftop sitter, stander and climber. The actor, who has also played prominent roles on the Emmy-winning series “Shameless” and the wrestling film “The Iron Claw,” debuted as the brand’s ambassador this month.
For the campaign, White undresses himself as he races onto a New York rooftop, taking breaks to flex and gaze at the skyline before finally plopping down onto the much-envied couch that was probably crawling with sweat on such a hot afternoon, all while Lesley Gore’s 1963 song “You Don’t Own Me” plays.
Since the campaign launch, steamy memes have proliferated and some commenters might need water.
“My mom keeps asking if this is my favorite song,” one person wrote on Instagram.
As for the couch, it’s not clear whether the real thing is being offered.
Maybe it’s just waiting for that one lucky person to say yes, and thank you, Chef.
