The initiative by Maryland Gov. Wes Moore (D) that would include establishing a statewide center to help prevent gun violence is a significant step forward [“Moore rolls out bills to address crime,” Metro, Jan. 10]. It aligns perfectly with the mission of our respective organizations. We understand the deep impact of violence on communities and the urgent need for effective intervention strategies.

We applaud Mr. Moore’s recognition of the intersection of public safety and public health in addressing gun violence. His emphasis on accountability and rehabilitation in the juvenile justice system echoes our belief in addressing the root causes of violence. These reforms are crucial for creating safer communities and providing our youths with the support and opportunities they need to thrive.

The collaboration between national and state initiatives and community programs like ours is essential. Together, we can create a more effective and compassionate approach to reducing violence and supporting our youths.
